Intern & Masters Programs 2008

Intern Program
Marin Shakespeare Company's Intern Program is an opportunity to study and perform as a part of a professional summer theatre company.

The program includes six weeks of classes in skills such as: Shakespearean Acting, Audition, Stage Combat and Movement. Classes vary each summer and are taught by members of the professional company including Artistic Director Robert Currier. In addition, Interns have numerous opportunities to perform, work backstage, and teach.

  • Classes: (Marin Art and Garden Center, Ross)
    Tuesdays - Fridays from 1 to 5:00 pm, June 10 to July 26, 2008
  • Rehearsals: Additional evenings and weekends.
  • Performances: (Forest Meadows Amphitheatre)
July 11 through either August 24 or September 28

All Interns participate in classes, which culminate in a Showcase of work presented for the company and friends. Interns also have an opportunity to participate in mainstage performances as ensemble actors and/or crew members and may gain Equity Membership Candidate points. In 2007, Interns also performed a week of Suzan-Lori Parks' 365 Days/365 Plays short plays.

An audition in person or by video is strongly recommended to assure yourself the best possible casting opportunity. While there is no required technical work, some Interns choose to accept backstage assignments and/or teaching internships in addition to acting assignments. Some schools have programs which allow interns to be paid through their college or university for work done in conjunction with the Intern Program. We generally accept 8 to 12 Intern students each summer

Housing is not provided; however in the past we have been able to provide housing as a portion of a scholarship award to one or more Interns per summer. San Rafael is very close to San Francisco so any of the surrounding counties (Sonoma, San Francisco, Contra Costa) are just a short drive to San Rafael.

The fee for the Intern Program is $950, which does not include housing, transportation or personal expenses. Please see the scholarship information attached. To apply, call us at 415/499-4487 for an application or Click Intern Program Application .
